Brest, a port city in northwestern France, is a city and administrative centre of the Brest region of the Republic of Belarus. The city is located on the right bank of the Western Boog River. Brest is the traditional "western gate" of the country. Brest boasts its important port and naval base, home to the French national fleet.

The fortress is the main attraction of the city. The collection of the Musée National de la Marine (National Navy Museum), featuring Brest's maritime tradition, is hosted in three of the castle's towers. Océanopolis marine centre, situated a few kilometres east of the city centre, is also a popular tourist resort.
