Located at the northern edge of the Northern Territory, Kakadu is the largest terrestrial national park in Australia. It stretchs from the wild, sandstone escarpments of Arnhem Land in the east, to the mangrove-rich, tidal fiats of Van Dieman Gulf in the north, and south almost to Katherine Gorge. Three major rivers flow through Kakadu, surrounding almost the whole drainage basin of the huge South Alligator River.
Kakadu is a biological wonderland, full of mammal, reptile, bird and insect life. There are about 60 species of mammal found here, including kangaroos, dingos, possums, bats and dusky rats. The park is famous for its reptiles, the most awesome of which is the dangerous Australian Saltwater crocodile. It must be a breathtaking tour to Kakadu National Park.. |
